Udaya Bhanu has spent 15 years wanting to produce a show. On September 11, she finally gets to watch one of her own premiere.

Panchanama, ZEE5's new Telugu Original, drops that Friday, and it's Udaya Bhanu Productions' first outing. The show is pitched as an investigative thriller, crime and mystery layered with emotional drama, where every death in the case pulls open another one. The makers held a special screening of the first episode at Prasad Labs in Hyderabad on September 9, followed by a press meet where the cast and crew talked through their characters and the shoot.

Udaya Bhanu didn't hold back on what the moment meant to her. "Panchanama is the realization of a dream I have carried for nearly 15 years," she said, thanking ZEE5 and calling out "Anu ma'am" by name for trusting her with the project. She spoke about pulling off a high-quality series on a tight schedule, and about keeping the bones of the original story intact while building a fresh narrative around it, with writer Nagendra, director Mohan Srivatsa and DOP Sandeep on the technical side.

"I strongly believe that when a door closes, we must create our own path," she said, framing the production as less a side step and more a second act.

She also got candid about the emotion of the day itself. "I believe being emotional is a strength. In today's world, sensitivity has become rare, and I am happy to remain the way I am," she said, adding that thinking back on 15 years of struggle while thanking ZEE5 got the better of her at the press meet.

For Udaya Bhanu, this isn't a one-off. "Panchanama is only the beginning for Udaya Bhanu Productions, and I hope to continue producing great stories and supporting new talent," she said, before asking audiences to show up for the show.

On screen, Bharath Srinivasan plays Jai Ram, the character presumably at the centre of the investigation, alongside Medha Reddy, Shivaji Raja, Surya Srinivas, Srija, Radhika Preethi, Charan Babu and Shiva Karthik Danda in supporting roles. Neither ZEE5 nor the makers have detailed the plot beyond the crime-mystery framing, so how the case actually unspools stays under wraps until Friday.

What's clear is the stakes for Udaya Bhanu personally. An actress stepping behind the camera as a producer is routine enough in Telugu cinema, but she's framed this one as the payoff of a decade and a half of waiting for the right door to open. Panchanama streams on ZEE5 from September 11, and its performance will likely shape whether Udaya Bhanu Productions gets to make good on that promise of more.
