Udta Teer added Rs 3.4 crore net on Tuesday, its fifth day in theatres, nudging the film's total to Rs 26.17 crore net, or roughly Rs 30.89 crore gross, going by trade estimates reported by Koimoi.

That's actually an uptick from Monday's Rs 3.21 crore, and the credit largely goes to Blockbuster Tuesday pricing, the discount scheme that tends to goose weekday numbers across multiplex chains. For a film that's already cleared its opening weekend and survived the usual Monday dip, holding steady into a second week isn't nothing.

The Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan starrer now sits one slot away from breaking into the actor's top five post-COVID grossers. Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui, which closed its run at Rs 28.5 crore net, currently holds that fifth spot. Udta Teer needs just Rs 2.33 crore more to leapfrog it, a target that should fall on day 6 if Tuesday's trend holds.

What's driving the hold

Family entertainers with a word-of-mouth push often do their real business in the second week rather than the first, and Udta Teer appears to be following that script. Directed by Aakash Kaushik, the film comes from Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment, backed by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain. The supporting cast includes Mukul Dev, Gulshan Grover, Ram Kapoor and Rahul Bose.

Trade watchers now reckon the film has a real shot at the Rs 50 crore net mark domestically, though that would still need a sustained run through the coming weekend rather than a one-off discount bump.

Worth remembering here: Ayushmann's post-COVID filmography has been a mixed bag at the box office, swinging between modest hits and outright misses, so cracking the top five isn't a small thing for an actor whose brand has leaned heavily on content-driven cinema rather than star power alone.

For now, the number to watch is Wednesday's. If Udta Teer clears Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui's lifetime tally on day 6 as expected, the conversation shifts from whether it beats one film to how close it can get to the actor's post-COVID best, and whether a second extended weekend can carry it all the way to that Rs 50 crore target.
