Udta Teer is no longer October 9. It’s October 23. The shift wasn’t a whim — just a retreat from the kind of box office war that leaves films buried in the first weekend. Ayushmann Khurrana’s spy comedy-drama, now set to open after Drishyam 3’s storm surge, has been quietly moved to avoid being swallowed whole by Ajay Devgn’s latest. The makers called it a ‘cleaner release window’. That’s code for: don’t get crushed. The film, written and directed by debutant Akash A Kaushik, stars Ayushmann as a Pakistani agent who wakes up with amnesia, mistaken for an Indian counter-intelligence officer. Sara Ali Khan co-stars, alongside Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor, Gulshan Grover, and a cast of familiar faces. Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Guneet Monga Kapoor, Apoorva Mehta, and Achin Jain are behind the camera as producers. Ayushmann’s last outing was Pati Patni Aur Woh Do, a rom-com he shared with Sara. He’s also got Yeh Prem Mol Liya and Mupapa lined up. But right now, Udta Teer isn’t just another release date change, it’s a strategic pause. Theatres aren’t just screens anymore. They’re battlegrounds. And this one? It’s not fighting on the front lines yet.
