Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan are back together on screen, and the first look of Udta Teer landed Tuesday morning with a line that's designed to make you stop scrolling: "Deshbhakti toh yaad hai... Par Desh nahi!" Patriotism, remembered. The country itself, apparently not.

Make of that what you will. The makers aren't explaining the joke yet.

What we do know is the release date. Udta Teer opens in theatres on October 9, 2026, which gives the film exactly a month from this first look to build whatever word of mouth it can. That's a tight runway for a film that's still keeping its plot, its supporting cast and pretty much everything else under wraps.

The pairing itself is the hook. Khurrana and Khan have shared screen space before, and putting them back together in something billed as a family entertainer with a comic, action-leaning edge feels like a deliberate swing at reclaiming the space Khurrana built his name in. He's spent the last few years drifting across genres. This looks like a return to what worked.

Behind the camera, Udta Teer is the directorial debut of Akash A Kaushik, who's also written the film. That's a real bet for a project carrying two names as recognisable as these, and it says something about how much confidence the producers have in the script.

And there's serious backing here. The film is produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain, bringing together Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment for the fourth time. The two banners have collaborated before on The Lunchbox, Kill and Gyaarah Gyaarah, a run that's mixed festival-circuit prestige with genre thrillers. Udta Teer, on the strength of this first look, looks like it's aiming for something lighter than either.

The title itself, loosely an arrow in flight, and that oddly-phrased tagline suggest the film is playing somewhere between satire and slapstick, possibly using a deshbhakti framing as a setup rather than the actual subject. Koimoi's report on the reveal notes that the comedy-and-action mix is expected to sit at the film's core, though the studios haven't detailed how.

No trailer yet, no character names, no supporting cast confirmed. What's locked is the date and the pairing, and for a film this deep into its marketing silence, that first look was clearly designed to do the talking until the next drop. Expect a trailer to follow well before October, probably once the makers are ready to explain that tagline properly.
