Sara Ali Khan and Ayushmann Khurrana marked Dussehra with a photo from the Golden Temple in Amritsar — not as part of a promotional stunt, but as a quiet moment before the storm. The image, shared by Sara on social media Thursday morning, shows the two actors standing together outside the sacred complex, their expressions relaxed, the golden dome behind them glowing under the late afternoon sun.

The post carried no elaborate caption beyond a simple “Happy Dussehra 🙏💕 Wishing everyone love, luck and laughter 🤗”, yet it’s already become one of the most talked-about moments in Bollywood this week. The timing is deliberate: Udta Teer, the film they’re promoting, is set to release in theatres across India on October 23, 2026.

Directed by Akash A. Kaushik, the spy-comedy follows Bilal Ahmed, a Pakistani intelligence agent sent on a mission to infiltrate Indian security networks. After a near-fatal explosion, he loses his memory and begins to believe he’s an Indian counter-terrorism officer. Ayushmann plays the role with a mix of physical comedy and emotional confusion, while Sara Ali Khan portrays Yamini, the woman who becomes entangled in his fabricated identity.

The film also features Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor, Gulshan Grover, Suhail Nayyar, Raghubir Yadav, Brijendra Kala, and Supriya Pilgaonkar. It includes the final screen appearance of Mukul Dev, who passed away earlier this year. Produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, Guneet Monga Kapoor, and Achin Jain under Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment, Udta Teer has drawn attention beyond its cast and premise.

Around October 19–20, Nepal reportedly denied permission for public screenings of the film, citing provisions related to content that could affect relations with friendly nations or national interests. While the official reason hasn’t been confirmed, industry sources suggest the India-Pakistan spy narrative is at the heart of the decision. That ban, if upheld, adds a layer of real-world tension to a film built on fictional espionage.

The question now isn’t just whether audiences will laugh at the premise, it’s whether the story can survive the weight of what it represents. The theatrical run begins in three days. The first reaction? Still waiting.
