The Tamil action drama dropped 62.5% from Sunday's high to earn just ₹1.20 crore on its second Monday, even as its 12-day domestic haul inches toward ₹25 crore.
Baththa just had its second reality check. After riding a genuine second-weekend bump, Vijay Sethupathi's Tamil action drama fell back to earth on Monday, October 12, collecting an estimated ₹1.20 crore net in India, according to data tracked by Sacnilk. That's a 62.5% drop from Sunday's ₹3.20 crore, the film's best single-day number since its opening weekend.
The total domestic net now stands at ₹24.61 crore after 12 days, with the gross collection at ₹28.46 crore. Occupancy on Day 12 came in at 17% across 1,649 tracked shows, translating to roughly 1,08,280 footfalls for the day. Cumulative footfalls since release have crossed 20.5 lakh.
The number tells a familiar story for films that peak late in their second weekend rather than the first. Baththa opened on October 1 with ₹1.50 crore and built steadily through its debut weekend, touching ₹2.70 crore on Friday, ₹2.75 crore on Saturday and ₹3.10 crore on Sunday. The first Monday, predictably, saw a dip to ₹1.30 crore, and the film spent its opening week hovering in the ₹1.3-1.4 crore band on weekdays before closing out seven days at ₹15.46 crore.
A second-weekend rally that didn't hold
What made the second week interesting was the recovery. Friday, October 9 brought in ₹1.65 crore, a soft start to the new weekend, but Saturday jumped to ₹3.10 crore and Sunday went further still, hitting ₹3.20 crore, its strongest day since the opening Sunday. For a film that had looked like it was settling into a quiet decline, that was a genuine spike, the kind that suggests word of mouth was still doing some work nearly ten days in.
Monday's ₹1.20 crore punctures that momentum, though it isn't unusual. Weekday collections almost always correct sharply after a strong weekend, and the real test for Baththa now is whether Tuesday and the rest of this week can hold anywhere close to first-week weekday levels or whether the film settles into a steeper slide.
Directed by Balaji Tharaneetharan, Baththa stars Sethupathi alongside Lijomol Jose in a story set in Madras in 1986, about a feared local gangster who ends up locked inside a school restroom by an eight-year-old boy, and the odd bond that follows. Sai Abhyankkar composed the music, Selvakumar S. K. Shot the film, and R. Kalaivanan edited it. Cine1 Studios, A for Apple Studios and Star Studio18 back the production.
With ₹24.61 crore net banked and the ₹25 crore mark within touching distance, Baththa's second week closes on Wednesday. How it performs through the rest of this week, without a weekend to lean on, will decide whether the film settles as a modest success or fades out before a third week even becomes a conversation.
