Alia Bhatt isn’t stepping into a film this time — she’s stepping into a moment. The actress will present one of the five Earthshot Prize awards at the 2026 ceremony in Mumbai, joining an international lineup that includes Oscar-winning actor Rami Malek, cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, and British actress and musician Simone Ashley. The event, hosted by Karan Johar, marks the first time the global environmental awards have been held in India and will be streamed worldwide on Prime Video across more than 240 countries and territories, available in over 40 languages. The Earthshot Prize was launched in 2020 by Prince William to spotlight innovators tackling climate change through bold, scalable solutions. This year’s celebration brings together around 5,000 guests to honour changemakers from across the world who are turning ideas into action. Alia described the occasion as a ‘celebration of hope’, not passive, but rooted in ‘ideas, action and people who are finding new ways forward.’ She added that it feels ‘very special’ to see Mumbai become a hub for such global efforts, and expressed pride in India’s role in the movement. Karan Johar called hosting the event in Mumbai a ‘privilege’ and said it reflects India’s ‘boundless creativity and resilience’ as a stage for planetary healing. Rami Malek emphasized the need for stories of hope, noting that the finalists embody ‘the spirit of change’ amid urgent global challenges. Sachin Tendulkar, known for his advocacy beyond sport, said the prize celebrates those who unite with purpose. Turning ‘bold ideas into meaningful action’ for future generations. Gaurav Gandhi, Vice President & Head Prime Video, said the event proves entertainment can be a force for change, and Jason Knauf, CEO of The Earthshot Prize, called Mumbai the ‘biggest and best’ edition yet, calling the gathering proof of humanity’s determination to repair the planet. The night isn’t about box office or red carpets. It’s about what happens when stars don’t perform, they stand. And the world watches.
