Third song, and it's out. Don't Be Shy has dropped Re Bawri, the latest track from its soundtrack, with Sona Mohapatra on vocals and Ram Sampath composing. Saveri Verma wrote the lyrics.
This one's different from the two songs that came before it. Jhoomo released on September 3, followed by Tere Sang on September 8, and Ram Sampath sang both of those himself. For Re Bawri, he's stayed behind the composer's chair and handed the mic to Mohapatra, whose voice carries the track from the first line.
Sona Mohapatra spoke about what she was going for with the song. "Re Bawri has that infectious, carefree quality that makes it impossible to sit still. It's playful and energetic and celebrates those moments when you're with your friends with music in the background, and nothing else really matters," she said.
She also had things to say about watching Alia Bhatt and the rest of the cast shoot the music video. "Seeing Alia and the cast bring that energy to the music video was such a joy to watch, and I think they capture the spirit of the song beautifully. I had a lot of fun bringing that spirit into the song, and I hope it makes listeners want to get up, dance, and be a little bawri themselves," she added.
Don't Be Shy is a coming-of-age romantic comedy built around Shyamili "Shy" Das, a 20-year-old who thinks she's got her life sorted until it doesn't stay that way for long. Aarushi Bajaj plays Shy, with Piyush Khati, Bianca Arora and Ansh Duggal rounding out the younger cast. Kunaal Roy Kapur, Anurag Basu and Neha Dhupia back them up.
What's got people talking beyond the songs is Alia Bhatt's name on the film as producer, her first feature-length production credit. At the trailer launch, she spoke about what it means to be on the other side of the camera this time, the nerves that come with backing a project rather than just acting in it. The trailer itself has already been out for a bit, and it's this producer angle that seems to be doing as much of the promotional heavy lifting as the songs are.
Three tracks in, two weeks before release, and the marketing push shows no sign of slowing. Whether a fourth song lands before September 25 hasn't been said yet. What's confirmed is the release date itself, and that Don't Be Shy opens in theatres that Friday.
