The actor, known largely for Hindi television and reality shows, drops her first Punjabi track today, shot entirely at Punjab Filmcity in a mix of Western and Indo-Western looks.
Avika Gor is out with a Punjabi song today. 'Zalima', featuring singer-composer-lyricist Kulwinder Billa, drops on September 22, and it's her first real crack at Punjabi music after years of being a Hindi television face.
The track was shot at Punjab Filmcity, and going by what's been shared so far, Avika runs through a string of looks across the song, Western pieces, Indo-Western pieces, each one apparently built to match a different mood or setting within the track. It's a small departure but a real one. Most people know her from the small screen, not from music videos, and definitely not from Punjabi ones.
Avika called the experience "very different and exciting" while speaking about the project. "I have always enjoyed exploring new spaces as an actor, and getting to be a part of a Punjabi song opposite Kulwinder Billa was something I genuinely enjoyed," she said. "We shot at Punjab Filmcity and the entire experience had such a lovely energy. I also got to experiment with different looks, from Western to Indo-Western, which made the shoot even more fun."
She went on to talk up the styling angle specifically, saying the range of outfits is what gives the song its energy. "I think that variety is what makes the song exciting," she said. "Every ensemble had a different feel, and it was interesting to see how the looks came together with the setting, music and mood. It's always exciting as an actor to step into something new and challenge yourself in a different format. I'm really looking forward to seeing the audience's reaction to 'Zalima'."
There's no word yet on who directed the video or who's behind the music beyond Billa, who wrote and composed the track himself. No label credit, no runtime, none of that has surfaced yet either.
What's clear is the intent. This isn't Avika dipping a toe into a film role or a web project, it's a straight pivot into a music video, opposite an artist with his own Punjabi fanbase, in a market she hasn't worked in before. Pairing a Hindi TV name with a Punjabi music star is its own kind of crossover play, and whether 'Zalima' lands with Punjabi music audiences or just her existing following will say a fair bit about how far that pivot can go.
For now, the song is live from today. What comes next, another single, a full soundtrack, nothing at all, isn't something either side has spoken about.
