Ayushmann Khurrana, Sara Ali Khan Attend Wagah Border Ceremony For Udta Teer

The duo joined the Beating Retreat ceremony at Attari-Wagah a day before Udta Teer opens in theatres, even as trade watchers have already trimmed its opening estimates to Rs 2.5-4 crore.

Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan spent Thursday evening at the Attari-Wagah border, not for a holiday but for one last promotional stop before Udta Teer hits theatres on October 23.

The two actors showed up for the Beating Retreat ceremony, the daily flag-lowering spectacle that draws crowds on both sides of the India-Pakistan border. Sara, in a white ethnic suit, greeted BSF officers with handshakes before heading to the ceremony grounds. Ayushmann wore a custom Udta Teer T-shirt with INDIA printed across the back, and according to Bollywood Hungama, he used the moment to thank the soldiers personally for their service.

Both actors sat in the VIP gallery as the drill played out, and joined the crowd in patriotic slogans during the flag-lowering. Photos from the visit show Ayushmann saluting alongside senior BSF personnel, and the stop ended with a selfie involving Sara, the officers and a chunk of the crowd that had gathered for the ceremony.

This wasn't a one-off. The pair had already been to the Golden Temple together around Dussehra as part of the same promotional run, so the border visit reads like the campaign's patriotic centrepiece rather than something put together overnight.

The timing matters more than it might look. Udta Teer releases Friday, and trade trackers have already pulled its opening-day forecast down to somewhere between Rs 2.5 crore and Rs 4 crore, a modest number for a film fronted by two actors with real box office pedigree. A border visit timed to the eve of release, patriotic slogans and all, fits a familiar playbook: when the advance word isn't loud enough, you go looking for a moment that photographs well and travels on its own.

Whether that moves the needle on Friday is a separate question from whether it generates coverage, and it clearly did the latter. Border visits by film units aren't new, but they tend to work when there's a patriotic theme running through the film itself, and Udta Teer's marketing has leaned into exactly that register since its trailer dropped.

For now, the film's fate rests with Friday's actual footfalls rather than Thursday's optics. Industry trackers will be watching first-day numbers closely given how far estimates have already slipped, and whether the Khurrana-Ali Khan pairing can hold an audience through the weekend is the next thing to find out.
