Bad Bunny is an Emmy winner now, and he didn't even have to show up for it.

The Puerto Rican star, born Benito Martinez, picked up Outstanding Variety Special (Live) on Saturday night for producing the Apple Music Super Bowl LX Halftime Show. It happened at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, during the first night of the 2026 Creative Arts Emmy Awards. Bad Bunny wasn't in the room. Didn't matter. The show was.

Nine nominations. Seven wins. That's the kind of ratio award shows dream about, and the halftime show delivered it across categories nobody outside the industry pays attention to but that decide whether a live special actually works: directing, choreography, music direction, lighting, sound mixing, technical direction and camerawork.

Hamish Hamilton took the directing award. Miguel Gandelman won for music direction. Charm La'Donna and Karina Ortiz shared the choreography prize. The lighting, sound and camerawork categories went to the show's technical crews, credited collectively as part of the production.

Jay-Z, who executive produced the halftime show, picked up another Emmy of his own. On the count, the sources don't quite agree. Variety has him as a three-time winner in this category. Just Jared calls it his second. Either way, he's got company at the top now.

What made this halftime show different, according to creative director Harriet Cuddeford, wasn't the star power, though there was plenty of that. Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin both showed up as guests, and Variety reported the set included a real wedding staged live and actual small-business owners on stage, among them Los Angeles taco spot Villa's Tacos.

"The performance is celebrating normal people, and what it is to be human and love and have joy, and really appreciate one another," Cuddeford told Variety before the ceremony. "This was to show how much he values his community, to celebrate normal people on the world's biggest stage, especially people who are of importance in Latino culture. He's a very authentic person, Benito, and it's about just being authentic and very real and very human."

That's the pitch, anyway, and the Television Academy clearly bought it. Nine nominations for a fifteen-minute halftime slot is a lot. Seven wins off that is more than most awards contenders manage across an entire season.

The Creative Arts Emmys run across two nights before the main ceremony, and night one is usually where the technical and craft categories get decided, out of the spotlight of the televised show. Bad Bunny's name will still be read out when the bigger ceremony airs, category permitting. Whether he turns up for that one is the only thing left to find out.
