Bipasha Basu is back on screen after a six-year hiatus, officially beginning work on a new Prime Video Original crime drama directed by Hansal Mehta. The series, which remains untitled, marks her first acting assignment since the 2020 web series Dangerous, where she starred opposite her husband, Karan Singh Grover.

The project reunites Basu with Mehta, known for Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story and The Buckingham Murders, who continues his signature exploration of institutional corruption and moral ambiguity. The story unfolds in a small town rapidly transforming into a major centre for heroin trafficking, placing law enforcement under immense pressure from both criminal networks and systemic rot.

Sunny Kaushal leads the narrative as an incorruptible police officer navigating a dangerous landscape where loyalty is tested and integrity comes at a cost. His recent roles in Shiddat and Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba suggest a shift toward more intense, character-driven performances. Vishal Jethwa joins the cast in a significant role, though details about his character remain undisclosed. Jethwa, recognized for Mardaani 2 and Neeraj Ghaywan’s Homebound, brings gravitas to the ensemble.

The series is written by Kashyap Kapoor and Raghav Raj Kakker and produced by Prabhleen Sandhu under Almighty Motion Pictures Productions. While filming has begin, no official release date or title has been announced. The makers have also not revealed the nature of Basu’s role, leaving audiences curious about her character’s place in the unfolding tension between justice and survival.

Her return signals a notable moment in her career, especially after stepping away from regular work to focus on motherhood following the birth of her daughter, Devi, in November 2022. With Mehta’s direction, a high-stakes premise, and a strong cast, the series is already generating anticipation among fans of realistic crime dramas.

Further announcements regarding the plot, characters, and premiere window are expected in the coming months. Until then, the mere fact of Basu’s comeback — paired with Mehta’s track record, has positioned this series as one of the most talked-about Indian originals in development.
