Chiranjeevi's long-delayed Vishwambhara has finally cleared its non-theatrical business, and the numbers floating around are big. Industry sources quoted by Telugu Filmibeat put the Amazon Prime Video digital rights deal at roughly Rs 55 crore, with the streamer reportedly edging out Netflix after a competitive bidding round. Zee Telugu has picked up the satellite rights, per the same report, though what that particular deal is worth hasn't surfaced yet.
None of this has been confirmed officially by producers UV Creations. But if the figures hold up, it's a serious payday for a film that has spent well over a year fighting its own visual effects pipeline.
Vashishta directs Vishwambhara, a big-canvas socio-fantasy adventure with Chiranjeevi headlining opposite Trisha. Ashika Ranganath, Esha Chawla, Surabhi Puranik and Ramya Pasupuleti round out a sprawling supporting cast, alongside Rao Ramesh, Vennela Kishore and Kunal Kapoor in key parts. MM Keeravani is composing the score.
Why the delay
Shooting wrapped a while back, but Vishwambhara has been stuck in post-production for months, mostly because of the scale of its visual effects. Trade talk has consistently pointed to international VFX vendors being brought in for the film's heavier sequences, and that work is reportedly nearing its final stretch now. With digital and satellite rights sorted, the makers' attention has apparently shifted fully to locking down a theatrical date.
Sankranti 2027, and a scheduling headache
The word doing the rounds is that Vishwambhara is aiming for the Sankranti 2027 window, with January 9 floated as a possible release date. Nothing is official on that front, and Telugu Filmibeat itself flags January 9 as unconfirmed chatter rather than a locked date.
Here's where it gets awkward. Chiranjeevi's other big film, Kaka, directed by Bobby Kolli, already carries an official release date of January 13, 2027, placed squarely in the same Sankranti race. Two big-ticket films with the same lead actor releasing four days apart isn't something the industry deals with often. It would immediately raise questions about screen allocation, distributor bandwidth and which film gets first call on a crowded festival calendar.
For now, Vishwambhara's team has two boxes ticked off, digital and satellite. The theatrical date, and whether it steps around Kaka or walks straight into it, is the one call still pending. An official announcement, producers have signalled, should follow once post-production wraps for good.
