Speaking a day before the ‘Patient Zero’ clip drops at the VMAs, Johnson called working alongside Swift the most fun she's had on a set in years.
Dakota Johnson spent Thursday doing double duty. Hours after walking the red carpet for her own film, "Verity," in London, she was fielding questions about someone else's project entirely: Taylor Swift's new video for "Patient Zero."
"Working with your friends is like the most fun thing on the planet," Johnson said at the London premiere, according to Variety. "We've known each other for so long, we respect each other's creative minds, and to be able to work alongside her and support and assist and be a person whom she tells what to do is wonderful."
She kept going in a separate chat that day with Ambar Lee and Leah Briars on the Fangirl Nation podcast. "Normally I would say 'Don't work with your friends,' but we work really well together," Johnson said. "It was so fun. So fun. It was the best. We just had the best time."
The friendship isn't new. Johnson was one of the guests at Swift's wedding to Travis Kelce at Madison Square Garden this July, and by all accounts the two have known each other for years before either of them started swapping notes on a music video shoot.
According to Just Jared, Colin Farrell also appears in the clip alongside Johnson, though neither outlet has detailed what either actor actually does in it. Swift gave fans a 13-second teaser this week showing Johnson flanked by another woman and a man, and the internet has spent the days since picking the footage apart frame by frame.
The full video arrives at the MTV VMAs on Sunday, September 27, timed to a bigger release. Swift announced Wednesday that "The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore," an expanded edition of last year's album, drops Friday with four additional tracks: "Patient Zero," "Cleveland!," "Pink Clouding" and "Babylon."
In her announcement, Swift traced the new songs back to a trip to Sweden with longtime collaborators Max Martin and Shellback, framed as a thank-you for what she called the biggest first-week album sales in history. "We just wanted to reflect and take in how grateful we were for the moment we were in, but there was a studio there," she wrote, adding that the extra tracks were "born out of pure gratitude."
What's still unclear is what "Patient Zero" is actually about, or how Johnson and Farrell's roles connect to it. Swift hasn't said, and the teaser raises more questions than it answers. Sunday's VMAs will settle at least some of that, four days out from a preorder window Swift is clearly betting fans won't skip.
