A 17-year-old's FIR describes men posing as police before the alleged assault in Aastha Kunj Park, according to details accessed by CNN-News18.
A 17-year-old girl has alleged that three men posed as policemen before assaulting her inside Aastha Kunj Park in south Delhi's Kalkaji area on September 21, her own birthday. Her statement to police, accessed by CNN-News18 and reported by The Free Press Journal, lays out a chain of events that started at a temple and ended in a police station.
According to the FIR, the survivor left home around 5 pm with a male friend to visit Kalkaji Mandir, planning to go on to the ISKCON temple afterward. The two stayed at the mandir till roughly 7 pm, picked up chips and water near the metro station, and walked into Aastha Kunj Park through Gate No. 7. They'd barely sat down on a bench when three men, said to be in their thirties, approached them.
The men allegedly grabbed the friend, slapped him, and claimed to be police officers questioning the pair about being in the park. Both phones were taken. The girl and her friend were then separated.
Her statement alleges that one man ordered another, referred to as Asif, to produce a gun, and that he was briefly shown a black pistol. Knives followed, she says, and she was forced into a darker part of the park. According to the FIR, Asif allegedly assaulted her at knifepoint on a red bench. Two more men, identified in her statement as Hemu and Deepu, allegedly assaulted her separately afterward, also under threat of a knife.
She told police she was crying through the ordeal. Afterward, she says, she was given a T-shirt and jeans to change into, her friend was brought back, phones were returned, and the men warned them to stay quiet before letting them go.
It was her friend who called the police control room once she told him what had happened, which is how the case came to be registered at Amar Colony Police Station. Investigators have booked the case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita along with the POCSO Act, given the survivor's age.
Earlier reporting had said police teams were combing CCTV footage from around the park to trace the three men. None of the accused has been named in any charge sheet yet, and what's been made public so far is drawn entirely from the survivor's own statement to police. Under law, they'll get to respond through the courts once identified and charged.
For now, the case sits with Amar Colony police, who have not said whether any arrests are imminent.
