Not because the idea was weak, but because it kept changing with the world around it. The original version? A direct response to real events. But by 2017, when Iñárritu began working with Mexican writer Sabina Berman, those events had already moved on.
So did the story. It didn’t die, it evolved. Into something stranger, more layered. Into a film where Cruise plays Digger Rockwell, the most powerful man in the world, and Curtis, an actor who embodies him on screen.
