Darkwing Duck Reboot Ordered to Series on Disney+

The classic 1990s superhero duck returns with a fresh voice cast, new villains and a teenage sidekick, set to launch on Disney+ later this year.

Disney+ confirmed today that a new Darkwing Duck series has been ordered to production. The revival brings back the egocentric crime‑fighting mallard, this time voiced by Mark Hamill, while longtime sidekick Launchpad lands Seth Rogen’s unmistakable tone.

Cast and Crew

Hamill, best known for his work in the Star Wars saga, steps into the role of Drake Mallard, a.k.a. Darkwing Duck. Rogen, who also serves as an executive producer, returns as the bumbling but loyal Launchpad McQuack. The supporting roster includes Lizzy Caplan as Gosalyn Mallard, Lilimar as the new teen partner Duckie, Dan Stevens, Tiffany Shepis, Kathryn Newton, Teo Briones, Tyler Dean Flores, Katie Rich and Nat Faxon filling out the rest of the ensemble.

The series is being shepherded by writers and executive producers Sean Tretta and Borja Peña Gorostegui, with Point Grey Pictures handling production alongside Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Alex McAtee and Gabby Grantham. Original creator Tad Stones is on board as a consultant, lending his nostalgia‑charged perspective.

What the Reboot Brings

According to the official logline, Darkwing has spent the past three and a half decades stuck in an alternate reality where no one knows his heroic deeds. A rebellious teen named Duckie, who’s obsessed with the hero’s legacy, appears to yank him back into the fray. Together they must face classic foes like Negaduck and Megavolt while reuniting with allies such as Launchpad, Gosalyn and the sorceress Morgana.

“Like every other fan of the original show, I’m excited to see Darkwing getting dangerous again in a whole new series,” Stones told reporters. The creative team says they have amplified the action and comedy without losing the Disney heart that defined the original.

The original series, which aired from 1991 to 1995 and accumulated 91 episodes, occasionally crossed over with DuckTales in its recent reboot. That crossover introduced a meta‑layer where Darkwing existed as a fictional TV character before becoming real. The new series will build on that legacy, positioning the duck alongside literary archetypes such as Robin Hood and Sherlock Holmes, according to the production notes.

Fans can expect a visual style that nods to the ’90s aesthetic while embracing modern animation techniques. The involvement of Point Grey Pictures, known for its off‑beat humor, hints at a tone that balances slapstick with sharper jokes.

The series will join Disney+’s expanding slate of revived properties, joining the likes of The Proud Family and She‑Hulk. No premiere date has been announced yet, but the greenlight suggests a rollout sometime in 2027.

The announcement has already sparked chatter on social platforms, with many nostalgic viewers expressing excitement over Hamill’s involvement and Rogen’s comedic flair.
