Sun TV's long-running soap Ethirneechal threw two plots at viewers in Thursday's episode, and both landed in the same house.

Sakthi calls Janani to say he's finally traced VK, who's being held somewhere against his will. He didn't go himself. He sent Gautham instead, worried the captors would recognise him on sight. VK is confirmed to be there, but Sakthi isn't rushing in. He has no idea how many people are guarding the place or what they're carrying, and he tells Janani the rescue has to wait for the right window.

Janani's answer is blunt. Once VK is out, she wants him produced in court, no delays. But she's also just dropped a bomb of her own. She's told everyone in the house who Ravanan really is, that he's Devaki's son. Sakthi doesn't take this well. What if the house is wired, he asks, what if Ravanan's been listening to every word they say through cameras nobody's found yet? Why did she rush to spill it?

The mic under the table

Janani isn't convinced there's actually a camera anywhere, but Sakthi is certain enough that it plants a seed of doubt. She goes room to room checking, and it's under the dining table that she finally finds something, a hidden mic. She calls the other women in the house over immediately. This is how Ravanan's been staying two steps ahead, she tells them. Every conversation, every plan, every secret anyone's let slip at that table, he's had access to all of it.

So the women flip the script. Rather than tip Ravanan off that they've found the mic, they stage an argument, playing it up so it sounds like some of them back Ravanan and Gunasekaran while turning on Janani. She plays her part too, complaining that after everything she's done for the family, they won't do this one thing for her in return. Outside, Ravanan and Gunasekaran are exactly where the women want them, listening in and buying every word.

Eswari draws a line

Away from the theatrics, a quieter scene plays out in Janani's room, where Renuka, Eswari, Nandhini and Darshini have gathered. Eswari is firm that the ritual binding to Ayyanar cannot go ahead. Whatever trouble Janani's facing, she says, the women need to stand together and stop it before it happens.

That leaves two threads hanging heading into Friday's episode. How does the household actually derail the Ayyanar ritual, and can Sakthi get VK out before Ravanan realises his listening device has been found?
