Ganesh Acharya put out the trailer for his own life story on Sunday, and the timing feels deliberate. Thirty-plus years into a choreography career that gave Hindi cinema 'Beedi Jalaile', 'Chikni Chameli' and 'Malhari', the man is now telling his own version of how he got there.

Ganesh Dust To Stardust is written and directed by Acharya himself, which is unusual enough on its own. It traces his journey from, as the title spells out, dust to stardust, hitting the struggle years before the industry knew his name and the eventual rise into one of its most in-demand choreographers. The trailer leans hard on dance sequences cut against emotionally loaded moments, which tracks given who's behind the camera.

The cast includes Shivanshu Soni, Alok Shaw, Sukanya Kalan and Sakshi Pawaskar. Acharya's daughter Soundarya Acharya has produced the film, and she said watching her father build this from the ground up has been personal for her too. "He has put immense passion, hard work and emotion into every aspect of this film," she said.

Acharya himself framed the project as bigger than his own biography. "I have always believed that everyone has the right to dream, but dreams don't come true just by dreaming," he said in a statement, adding that the film tries to capture what it costs to chase one anyway. He called it close to his heart and said he hopes audiences find pieces of their own struggles in it.

What's giving the trailer its reach, though, is who's sharing it. Akshay Kumar posted it on Instagram with a note about having worked with Acharya on his very first song as a choreographer, decades back. "Seeing the heights he has achieved through his hard work and talent makes me extremely happy and proud," Akshay wrote. Ajay Devgn also shared it, calling the project special precisely because it's Acharya's own story rather than a fictionalised stand-in.

Acharya's choreography resume does most of the talking for why this biopic exists at all. Two National Film Awards for Best Choreography, for 'Hawan Kund' in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and 'Gori Tu Lath Maar' in Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, sit alongside a filmography stretching back to the 1990s. He's also directed before, with Swami and Money Hai Toh Honey Hai on his résumé, and has acted in a clutch of projects too.

Behind the scenes, the film is presented by V2S Production & Entertainment, with screenplay and dialogues credited to Digangana Suryavanshi alongside Acharya. Junaid Kumar has composed the music and score, lyrics come from Sameer Anjaan and Acharya, Ajay Pandey is the cinematographer and Rakesh Ram has edited.

Ganesh Dust To Stardust opens in theatres on December 11. Whether a choreographer-turned-director can make his own struggle land on screen the way he's made countless heroines land their steps is the thing audiences will actually be watching for.
