Hanuman Ansh has done something its opening day gave zero indication of. On day one, the film scraped together just 10 lakh net. Forty-three days later, it's the biggest devotional grosser Bollywood has ever put out.

The film pulled in 5 crore net on its seventh Friday, according to Koimoi's tracking, down 20% from the 6.25 crore it made a day earlier. That drop tracks with what happened to its show count. On the sixth Thursday, Hanuman Ansh was running in 9,160 shows across the country. With Daayra, Vibe and a clutch of other titles opening Friday, that number fell to 6,462, a loss of nearly 2,700 shows in a single day.

Even with the squeeze, the cumulative number is what matters here. Hanuman Ansh now stands at 248.38 crore net, which works out to 293.14 crore gross. That's enough to slip past Mahavatar Narsimha's lifetime haul of 247.96 crore net, making it, as of day 43, the highest-grossing devotional film in Bollywood history.

A slow burn nobody saw coming

What makes the number strange is how quietly it built. This wasn't a film that opened big and coasted on a first-weekend high. It opened to almost nothing and then just kept adding shows, kept adding crores, week after week, long past the point most Hindi releases have made their money and gone home. Trade circles have been slower than usual to talk about it, and there's a real gap between how loudly the film is being discussed and how much it's actually earned. That gap is part of the story now.

Whether Hanuman Ansh gets to 300 crore net depends entirely on the weekdays ahead. Koimoi's report suggests it's within reach if the film holds even a fraction of its current pace, but weekday numbers for a film in its seventh week rarely behave the way weekend numbers do. Shows will keep thinning out as more September and October releases arrive, and every crore from here has to be fought for against films that opened with fresher marketing and wider screen counts.

Still, the record is the record. Mahavatar Narsimha had a good run and a strong claim on the devotional space, and now it doesn't have the top spot anymore. The question for the next fortnight is simple: does Hanuman Ansh cross 300 crore net before its run finally tapers off, or does it settle just short of the milestone with the record already banked.
