Imran Khan, the actor and nephew of Aamir Khan, has become the latest figure in a growing political storm after BJP leader Kirit Somaiya demanded his immediate arrest and deportation over alleged participation in a protest in Mumbai. The demand, made on Monday, hinges on claims that Khan — though an American citizen holding an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card, misused his status by engaging in what Somaiya described as an illegal political agitation.

He accused the actor of attempting to incite anarchy in India, calling his conduct a violation of both OCI provisions and visa conditions. No charges have been filed, and no FIR has been confirmed, but Somaiya said he had already submitted evidence to the Gamdevi Police Station, including recordings of speeches delivered during the demonstration and earlier public remarks attributed to Khan.

He claimed the case was incomplete and urged police to take further action. The BJP leader also announced plans to visit the station himself later that day to press for a summons. Somaiya did not specify when or how the summons would be issued. In his remarks to the media, he insisted that Khan falsely claimed citizenship ties to Mumbai and argued that his presence at the protest was part of a broader pattern involving other prominent figures.

He named veteran actors Shabana Azmi and Javed Akhtar, alleging their appearances at demonstrations were part of a ‘well-planned conspiracy’ allegedly funded by Pakistan. He added that such individuals were not acting independently but were part of a coordinated effort, though he offered no proof of financial backing or coordination.

The allegations echo previous statements from Somaiya, who had previously posted about the matter on X, where he criticized the police for failing to act. While Khan has not publicly responded, the controversy has reignited debate around the boundaries of free expression, foreign ties, and civic participation in India. The police have not commented.

The home ministry remains silent. But the momentum is building. With the hashtag #ArrestImranKhan trending, the next step could be official inquiry. Or nothing at all.

The story isn’t just about one protest. It’s about who gets to speak, and who gets to be heard.
