Kunal Kapoor steps into a future where the line between man and machine is thinner than ever. Mahaveer Jain Films has announced Lambodhara 2.0, an ambitious Kannada sci-fi social thriller directed by acclaimed filmmaker Simple Suni, set for release in cinemas on November 20, 2026, in both Kannada and Hindi. The film’s first look will be unveiled on Wednesday, October 14. It marks a significant shift for Kunal Kapoor, known for romantic leads and mainstream commercial roles, as he takes on a character navigating a world increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence and digital validation. The story probes a central question: can technology truly make human beings happy? Blending suspense, humour, and layered ideas around emotion, free will, and identity, the film positions itself at the intersection of speculative fiction and social commentary. What makes it stand out isn’t just its premise — but the presence of a real humanoid robot named JIA, which shares screen time with the cast. This isn’t CGI. The robot is a physical entity used in production, making Lambodhara 2.0 one of the most technically experimental Indian films to date. Alongside Kunal Kapoor, the film features Saachi Bindra and debutant Anil Shetty. The project is part of a wider slate from Mahaveer Jain Films, which is also producing Yeh Prem Mol Liya, a Sooraj Barjatya-directed family drama starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Sharvari, under a joint banner with Rajshri Productions. Another upcoming title is RamBola, directed by Vishal Chaturvedi, known for Hanuman Ansh. A few weeks ago, Bollywood Hungama reported that Mahaveer Jain Films is also behind a devotional drama fronted by Ravi Kishan. Then there’s Naagzilla, starring Kartik Aaryan, scheduled for release on February 12, 2027. With this mix of genres, from emotional family dramas to monster thrillers to high-concept sci-fi. Mahaveer Jain is building a portfolio that spans across regional and pan-Indian markets. Whether Lambodhara 2.0 lives up to its bold claims remains to be seen. But if the robot in the trailer holds its own, it might just be the most talked-about co-star of the year.
