The mystery lasted less than a week. Lady Gaga and fiancé Michael Polansky welcomed a baby girl on June 9, and on Thursday a birth certificate obtained by TMZ filled in everything the couple themselves hadn't.

Her name is Rose Bean Polansky. She arrived at 11:19 p.m. At Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, delivered by Dr. Robert Katz, the same OB-GYN who brought Ciara and Russell Wilson's daughter Sienna into the world nine years ago.

Gaga and Polansky hadn't said a word publicly before this. Page Six confirmed the birth on September 11, and days later ran photos of the pair on a family walk in Northern California, Gaga holding the newborn against her chest in loose pants and sunglasses, Polansky trailing in a hoodie and baseball cap. Neither has commented since. As of Thursday evening, they still hadn't.

Where the name comes from

A source told People that Rose was chosen with "La Vie en Rose" in mind, the Édith Piaf standard Gaga covered in "A Star Is Born" and later inked down her spine in a script tattoo. The middle name, Bean, likely nods to Carl Bean, the activist and musician whose 1977 recording is widely credited with shaping Gaga's own "Born This Way." Nobody involved has confirmed either theory outright. It's coming from insiders, not from Gaga's camp.

What isn't in dispute is how long she's wanted this. On "The Late Show" last October, Gaga called motherhood "my next starring role, I hope." She told Rolling Stone in November it was "the thing I want the most," and gushed that Polansky was "gonna be a beautiful father." Further back, in a March 2025 conversation with the New York Times, she admitted to conflicted feelings about fame colliding with parenthood, saying she wanted to give any future kids room to figure out who they are without her narcissism, her word, getting in the way.

The couple got engaged at the Paris Olympics in 2024 after dating since 2019, and Gaga told a Bruno Mars livestream in March they were "getting married soon." That set off a separate rumor mill. A Daily Mail source claimed on September 8 that friends in Gaga's circle believed she'd already eloped with Polansky and gone quiet on a honeymoon, saying nobody had seen or heard from her in over a month. That claim remains unconfirmed and came before any baby news broke, so treat it as gossip rather than fact.

Gaga has kept a low profile since wrapping the Mayhem Ball tour in April, and a People insider says both she and Polansky took the summer off work to be with Rose. Whether a wedding announcement follows the baby one, nobody's saying yet.
