Madhuri Dixit’s husband, Dr Shriram Nene, has revealed he didn’t know who Shah Rukh Khan or Salman Khan were when he married the actress in 1999. The confession came during a recent food vlog by Farah Khan, where Nene described his shock at the star-studded wedding reception in California. He said he grew up in Los Angeles, immersed in George Lucas and Steven Spielberg films, and rarely watched Hindi cinema. 'I didn’t watch Hindi films,' he said. 'I didn’t know who Shah Rukh Khan was. I didn’t know Salman Khan.' Only Amitabh Bachchan registered — because of Amar Akbar Anthony.

He recalled waving at guests he didn’t recognise, calling the experience ‘like prom king’. The moment drew laughs from Farah, who noted: ‘Of course, Madhuri is universally loved.’

Nene, a cardiovascular surgeon, met Madhuri through her brother. They dated for six months before marrying. At the time, she was at the peak of her Bollywood fame. After the wedding, she moved to the US, stepping back from acting. Their sons Arin (2003) and Ryan (2005) were born there. In 2011, the family returned to Mumbai, where Madhuri resumed her career on screen and television.

The story resurfaces as fans revisit Madhuri’s journey, from golden girl to mother, wife, and now, a woman whose life choices continue to intrigue. Her husband’s admission isn’t just a trivia nugget. It’s a quiet reminder that even in the heart of Bollywood glamour, some lives remain quietly outside the frame.
