Three names just got added to the cast sheet of Naam: To Live Is War, and one of them comes with history. Prashant Narayanan, Vijayant Kohli and Shefali Bagga are joining Veer Pahariya and Varun Sharma in the Sidhaant Sachdev-directed film, which Mahesh Bhatt is guiding creatively.

The Narayanan addition isn't random casting. Bhatt has worked with him before, on Murder 2, where Narayanan played the antagonist. In a statement, Bhatt said what excites him about this film is "the opportunity to bring together actors with different sensibilities and strengths," and called Narayanan's work "rawness and conviction," adding that he's "always appreciated the honesty" the actor brings to his roles.

On Bagga, who rounds out the trio, Bhatt kept it simpler. She's "a welcome addition," bringing her "own personality and screen presence" to an ensemble he describes as built for "a story with multiple characters and layers."

Producers Riddhi Chawda and Utsav Upadhyay, who are making the film under Utsav Entertainment and Productions, echoed the sentiment in a joint statement. Working with Bhatt, they said, has been "an incredible journey," and the goal with this ensemble was actors who "don't just play characters, but live them." Alphaneon Studioz is on board as studio partner.

What nobody's said yet is what the film is actually about. Both the cast announcements doing the rounds Tuesday skip plot details entirely, focusing on the actors and the pedigree behind them instead. That's left an obvious question hanging in the air.

The title itself is doing some heavy lifting here. Naam: To Live Is War shares its first word with Bhatt's 1986 film Naam, the gritty thriller that starred Sanjay Dutt and Kumar Gourav and is still remembered as one of the sharper Bhatt productions of that decade. Cinema Express flagged the overlap and noted it's unclear whether the new film has any thematic link to the original, or whether the shared name is coincidence dressed up as branding.

For now, the film is being positioned purely as a character study, five actors from fairly different backgrounds, stitched together under one director. Pahariya and Sharma carry the leads. Narayanan brings the villain-adjacent gravitas Bhatt clearly values. Kohli and Bagga fill out whatever remains of the ensemble, details on their characters still unannounced.

Sachdev, directing, hasn't spoken publicly yet, at least not in anything that's surfaced so far. The heavy lifting on messaging has come entirely from Bhatt and the producers, which tracks with how these Bhatt-backed projects tend to roll out, creative vision up front, plot kept under wraps till closer to release.

No release date has been mentioned alongside the casting news. With the full ensemble now in place, the next logical reveal would be either a first-look poster or some indication of when Naam: To Live Is War actually starts shooting, if it hasn't already.
