Karthi's Sardar 2 and Soori's Mandaadi hit screens on the same Thursday, and by the first Saturday there was nothing left to argue about. Koimoi reports that Mandaadi pulled in 354.55% more than Sardar 2 on day three, a gap wide enough to end whatever clash this was supposed to be.

Sardar 2 opened to a fair 4.5 crore net in India, riding on goodwill from the first film. That goodwill didn't hold. Day two saw a 45% drop, and by Saturday the film was down to 2.2 crore net. Its three-day total sits at 9.15 crore net, or 10.8 crore gross. The film has also shed close to 900 shows across the country in just three days, a sign exhibitors are already losing patience. Overseas hasn't offered any cushion either, with just 3.5 crore grossed abroad. Worldwide, Sardar 2 stands at 14.3 crore gross after its opening weekend.

Mandaadi tells a completely different story. Nobody treated Soori's film as real competition when the release date was first locked in. That changed the moment the trailer dropped and the sea-based drama started pulling eyeballs on its visuals alone. By Saturday, Mandaadi had earned 10 crore in a single day, more than Sardar 2 managed in its entire three-day run. The film's net total in India now reads 21.55 crore, translating to 25.43 crore gross. Add an overseas haul of 5 crore and the worldwide number touches 30.43 crore.

Line the two up over their first three days and Mandaadi is running 135% ahead of Sardar 2 in net collections in India alone. That's not a close race hardening into a photo finish, that's one film pulling clean away from the other while it's still in theatres.

What makes this sting a bit more for Sardar 2 is the franchise weight it was supposed to carry. Sequels are meant to have a floor. Instead, the drop from day one to day three has been steep enough that trade watchers are already talking exit timelines rather than extended runs. Social chatter comparing this outing unfavourably to other recent Tamil sequels hasn't helped the mood around it either.

Mandaadi, on the other hand, looks built for a longer haul. A film nobody circled as a threat a month ago is now on a clear track toward becoming one of the bigger Tamil releases of the year, and its Monday-to-Wednesday numbers will tell us whether that momentum is real word-of-mouth or just a strong festival-season weekend. Sardar 2's next few days will answer a tougher question: how much lower can it go before exhibitors pull the plug entirely.
