The gap between Karthi's Sardar 2 and Soori's Mandaadi isn't closing. It's getting worse.

BookMyShow data cited by 123telugu shows Sardar 2 sold 37.86K tickets in the most recent 24-hour window. Mandaadi, in the same stretch, sold 300.53K. Do the math and Soori's small-town comedy is outselling Karthi's much-hyped release by close to eight times over.

That's not a one-off blip either. The same pattern showed up on day two, per the report. So this isn't a Friday stumble that corrects itself by the weekend. It's a trend, and four days in, it hasn't budged.

Sardar 2 opened last Friday carrying real expectation. Karthi has a following, the franchise had a first part that worked, and trade circles had pencilled in a solid run. None of that has translated into footfalls this time, at least not against Mandaadi's numbers.

Mandaadi, on the other hand, keeps finding new gears. The Soori-Suhas film had a modest opening by star-power standards but has climbed rather than dipped, and the Vinayaka Chavithi holiday appears to have handed it an extra push at exactly the right moment. Families out for the festival, it seems, are picking the comedy over the bigger name.

The honest caveat here: four days of a festive calendar can flatter any film's numbers, and Monday is where the real picture usually shows up. Trade trackers have flagged Monday as the test that separates a genuine hit from a holiday-inflated one. If Sardar 2's ticket sales recover once the Vinayaka Chavithi bump wears off for Mandaadi, this gap could narrow fast. If they don't, Karthi's team has a harder conversation ahead about what went wrong.

For now, though, the numbers are what they are, and they're not kind to Sardar 2. A film with a recognisable lead and franchise weight behind it is being outsold nearly eightfold by a smaller release riding word of mouth and a festival calendar. That's the kind of stat trade analysts don't usually see attached to a Karthi film.

Whether it holds past Monday, whether Sardar 2 finds its footing once the holiday crowd thins out for its rival, and whether Mandaadi's number can survive the same test, that's what the next 48 hours will settle. Nobody's calling either film's fate yet. But the ticket counters, for now, have made their preference clear.
