Prime Video is finally rolling out its long-delayed adaptation of the Eisner Award-winning comic series Criminal, unveiling a full trailer just days before its January 2027 launch. The series, created by comic writer Ed Brubaker and co-showrun by Jordan Harper, unfolds across two parts: Coward and Lawless, both set to debut on Prime Video.

Charlie Hunnam leads as Leo Patterson, a mastermind thief who avoids violence but thinks three moves ahead — his father’s legacy looms large. His childhood friend Ricky Lawless, played by Gus Halper, is drawn into a dangerous path, while his brother Tracy, portrayed by Luke Evans, returns from Special Forces with military discipline and outlaw blood. The tension between them fuels a web of heists, betrayals, and family secrets.

Adria Arjona plays Greta, a widowed car thief trying to escape her life of crime for her daughter’s sake. Emilia Clarke steps into the role of Mallory, a sharp-witted armed robber entangled in a volatile romance with Ricky. Their stories collide with those of Richard Jenkins as Ivan, a dementia-stricken former criminal, and John Hawkes as Sebastian Hyde, a once-feared gambling boss now navigating frailty and fading power.

The ensemble also includes Logan Browning as a no-nonsense Internal Affairs detective raised alongside Leo, and Kadeem Hardison as Gnarly, a legendary boxer turned elder statesman of the underworld. Supporting roles span from Michael Mando to Garrett Hedlund, with directing credits going to Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck and Dee Rees.

The series promises a gritty, interlocking narrative rooted in the graphic novels’ exploration of inherited violence and moral ambiguity. With a mix of action, emotional depth, and layered character arcs, it arrives at a time when streaming audiences are hungry for bold, serialized crime dramas.

The first part, Coward, hits Prime Video on January 13, 2027, followed by Lawless on January 27. No word yet on a second season, but the finale leaves room for more.

This isn’t just another crime thriller, it’s a reckoning with what defines a criminal, and whether anyone can truly walk away.
