Actor Radha has gone to the police against sister Ambika and brother Mallikarjuna Kunchan Nair over a family property called ARS Studios, and Ambika says she is the one who has been wronged.
Radha has walked into a police station with a complaint naming her own sister. The actor has accused Ambika of stealing a cheque and using it to siphon off Rs 46 crore, according to Filmibeat Malayalam. The complaint doesn't stop at Ambika. It also names their brother, Mallikarjuna Kunchan Nair, as a co-accused.
Ambika has responded, and she isn't holding back either. Speaking to Filmibeat Malayalam, she said money is the one thing human beings never seem to have enough of, and that if something has broken between sisters who once lived so close, money is the only reason for it. She said she won't discuss specifics because the matter is now before a court, but she was clear on one point: their shared property, ARS Studios, is not being sold, and she will not allow anyone to sell it.
On the fraud allegation itself, Ambika flipped it entirely. She said she is the one who was cheated, that she is the one who should be filing a complaint, but that she won't. She pointed to her own history in the business, saying it was because she was already an established name that Radha got her start in films, and that she was the one who began earning first. Whether Radha remembers that or not, she said, plenty of people in the industry still do.
Ambika and Radha built a career together decades ago, working across multiple south Indian film industries at a time when they were among the most recognisable sister pairs on screen. At the peak of that run they set up ARS Studios, a movie studio that carried both their names. In 2013 the family converted it into a hotel complex, and it's this same property that now sits at the centre of the police complaint.
Radha's complaint, as reported by Filmibeat Malayalam, goes beyond the cheque allegation. She has claimed that a cheque taken from the house without her knowledge or consent was used unlawfully by Ambika and Mallikarjuna, and that the two of them have also blocked her from accessing property documents, jewellery and other valuables she says she's entitled to.
Ambika, for her part, framed the whole episode as a private family matter that has spilled into public view without her wanting it to. She said she has no interest in seeing internal disputes turn into headlines, and asked people who don't know the full picture to stop spreading whatever they've heard secondhand.
None of this has been tested in court yet. The complaint is with the police, the property dispute is pending, and both sisters have now put their versions on record through the same interview. What happens next depends on whether the police move to register a case and how Mallikarjuna Kunchan Nair, named alongside Ambika, responds to the allegations against him.
