Rajinikanth’s Dharman is reportedly being pushed back from Pongal 2027 to make way for Kamal Haasan’s Indian 3 — a shift that could reshape the South Indian box office calendar. The actioner, previously known as Thalaivar173 and now co-produced by Haasan himself, was set to land in theatres during the festive season. But sources say the release has been delayed to April 30, 2027, possibly to avoid clashing with Indian 3, which is nearing completion.

Indian 3, conceived as a direct sequel to Indian 2, is said to be wrapping up its final 15 days of shooting. Post-production on earlier footage is reportedly done. The film will explore Senapathy’s backstory and introduce his father, Veerasekaran Balram, played by Haasan. In a period drama arc. The teaser at the end of Indian 2 hinted at this continuation, but the underwhelming response to the second film left the third’s fate uncertain until recently.

Dharman, directed by Ashwath Marimuthu (Dragon), casts Rajinikanth as a suave doctor. Ram Pothineni is tipped to play the antagonist, with Simran Bagga, Yogi Babu, and Raashii Khanna in key roles. The film’s new release window, late April. Puts it in direct competition with Mahesh Babu’s Varanasi, which arrives on April 7.

No official confirmation has come from either team. Pinkvilla cites reports from Valai Pechu and Movies Singapore. Sun TV has also confirmed an interview with Rajinikanth for Jailer 2, set to air Sunday as a three-hour special. That’s not linked to Dharman, but it’s another sign the superstar’s schedule is tight.

So what happens next? The ball’s in the court of the makers. If Indian 3 does hit Pongal, Dharman’s delay becomes real. If not, the original plan might still stand. Until then, all we have are whispers, and a lot of waiting.
