Vijay Sethupathi is sitting out weekend episodes of Bigg Boss Tamil Season 10 with a throat infection, and this is Ramya Krishnan's second time filling in on the show.
Vijay Sethupathi's voice gave out before his show's weekend episode could go on air, and Ramya Krishnan walked in to cover for him.
She made her entry as the "Bigg Host" for this weekend's run of Bigg Boss Tamil Season 10, also called Bigg Boss: Carnivizha, with Sethupathi stepping away after doctors reportedly advised a week's rest for a severe throat infection and vocal strain. This isn't new territory for Krishnan. She hosted the show once before, in Season 5, when Kamal Haasan had to isolate after testing positive for COVID-19.
That earlier stint came during a genuine health scare in the middle of the pandemic. This one is lower stakes, a voice that needs rest rather than a quarantine, but the pattern holds. When the regular host can't go on, Bigg Boss Tamil reaches for Krishnan, and the audience seems to accept the swap without much fuss given how smoothly it's gone twice now.
According to reports, Sethupathi is expected to be back hosting by next week, which would put him in the chair for only one missed weekend. The show continues its usual slot on Vijay TV, 9:30 PM on weekdays and 9:00 PM on weekends, with all episodes streaming on JioHotstar round the clock.
A packed year for the host
Sethupathi hasn't exactly been resting outside the Bigg Boss studio either. He was recently seen in Baththa, the Balaji Tharaneetharan comedy-drama about a man who gets trapped inside a school restroom and ends up rethinking his whole life from in there. He also turned up in a cameo in Rajinikanth's Jailer 2.
The lineup ahead is heavier still. Train, with Sethupathi in the lead, is set for a December 4, 2026 release. He's also attached to Puri Jagannadh's Slum Dog: 33 Temple Road opposite Tabu and Samyuktha, and to Mani Ratnam's Inji Vellam alongside Sai Pallavi. Filming on Pocket Novel is already done.
So a throat infection forcing a week off isn't the worst timing, if there's ever a good time for it. The bigger question for the Bigg Boss Tamil 10 audience is a narrower one. Does Krishnan's weekend stint change anything about how contestants play the game, or is this simply a pause button until Sethupathi's voice comes back? That answer shows up next weekend, when he's due to reclaim the hot seat.
