Mihir Ahuja got the kind of message actors wait years for. Officer C.H. Bal Reddy, the man he played in Netflix's Operation Safed Sagar, wrote to him after watching the series: "You have immortalized your character."

That's not a small thing to hear from the person whose life is up there on screen.

Operation Safed Sagar released on August 7 and Ahuja played Officer Bal Reddy, known in Air Force circles as Baldy. A month on, the actor has been posting behind-the-scenes photographs from the shoot, including pictures with Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh and former Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa. Buried in that stream of photos was the real payoff, a message from Bal Reddy himself.

What's striking is how the officer downplayed his own role even while complimenting Ahuja's work. "Frankly, I was just a squirrel doing my job back then but you have elevated it so well," he wrote. That's the gap between how the people who lived an event describe it and how a screen version tends to heighten it, and Bal Reddy seemed aware of both sides.

His wife weighed in too, telling Ahuja, "You played my Baldy role so well," and, per the actor, she got visibly emotional watching the character come alive.

For Ahuja, that reaction landed harder than any review could. "There is no greater validation for an actor than hearing from the person whose life you are portraying that you have done justice to their story," he said. "Baldy sir's words genuinely humbled me. While playing him, I was constantly aware that this wasn't just a character I was creating, there was a real person, his experiences and his life behind it."

He added that watching Bal Reddy's wife react was a moment he won't shake off easily. "To now hear him say that I have immortalised the character, and to see his wife get emotional watching it, is something I will carry with me for a very long time. I'm incredibly grateful for their trust, their warmth and for allowing me to bring a small part of their story to the screen."

Ahuja has spoken before about wanting to play a uniformed officer, crediting Lakshya as an early influence on that ambition. Operation Safed Sagar gave him the real thing, and now the real officer's blessing. Whether that kind of endorsement changes how the series is remembered a year from now, or just becomes a nice anecdote in Ahuja's press rounds, depends on what he does next in uniform or out of it.
