The husband-and-wife authors unveiled companion titles on inner transformation and travel at an Andheri banquet hall on September 5, before a room stacked with corporate names.
Two books went out into the world together on September 5, at Gardenia Banquets inside Garden Court Hotel in Andheri West. Rewired! Reprogram Your Mind. Redesign Your Life., written by Shashank Patil, and Walk With Me Across the World, by Padma Shashank Patil, share a last name and, going by the framing at the launch, a shared idea: one book turns the lens inward, the other points it at the horizon.
The room wasn't short on names. M.K. Anand, former Managing Director and CEO of Times Network, showed up. So did Vikesh Wallia, who wrote the foreword to Rewired!, along with Pravin Manker and Harshad Chetanwala, both credited as endorsers of the book. Ajit Balan, who sits on the Governing Council of Cosmopolitan Education Society, was there too.
Family, friends, colleagues and readers filled out the rest of the crowd. There was a ceremonial lamp-lighting with the authors and their guests before the formal proceedings got underway, the kind of ritual that opens most book launches in this city.
As for the books themselves. Rewired! Sits in the self-help lane, built around the idea that a person can reprogram how they think and, from there, redesign how they live. It's a familiar promise in a crowded genre, but Patil's pitch leans on personal transformation as a process rather than a single moment of change.
Walk With Me Across the World runs in a different direction entirely. Padma Shashank Patil's book is a travel memoir of sorts, tracking experiences gathered from journeys through the world outside rather than the one inside a person's head. Put the two together and the publishers' intent becomes fairly obvious. One book asks you to sit still and look inward. The other asks you to get up and go.
There wasn't a lot of drama at Gardenia Banquets that evening. No trailer drops, no box office numbers, nothing that trends on X by morning. Just two authors, a lamp, a foreword-writer and a hall full of people who came because they know the Patils or admire what they've written.
Both titles are now out and available to readers, going by the timing of the September 5 launch. What remains to be seen is the usual thing for any new release: whether the ideas inside travel further than the launch night itself.
