Trackers disagree on the exact Monday number, but both count Mandaadi comfortably past its 50 crore budget with a hit verdict now in sight.
Twelve days in, Mandaadi has stopped being a story about opening numbers and started being a story about arithmetic. The Soori-starrer is already sitting on a profit, and the only real question left is whether it crosses 100 crore net at the domestic box office before the mid-October release lull ends.
The exact Monday figure depends on who's counting. Koimoi puts the second-Monday net collection at 2.45 crore, taking the film's 12-day net to 78 crore domestic, or 92.04 crore gross. Pinkvilla's tracking has the Monday number at 3 crore and the 12-day cume at 88.75 crore, with roughly 63 crore of that coming from Tamil Nadu alone. Neither figure is wrong exactly, they're just measuring slightly different things, and box office tracking across outlets rarely lines up to the crore anyway.
What both trackers agree on is the direction. Mandaadi was made on a reported budget of 50 crore, and it's now well clear of that. Koimoi calculates a 56% return on investment, roughly 28 crore in profit, with the film's overseas run adding 15.65 crore to push the worldwide total to 107.69 crore. Pinkvilla goes further and calls it a straight-up Hit already.
The 100 crore question
For a hit verdict by the industry's usual net-domestic yardstick, Mandaadi needs to touch 100 crore net at home. It's not there yet by either count, but it doesn't need to hurry. There's no major Tamil release scheduled until mid-October, which means Soori's film gets a clear run at the milestone without a bigger title eating into its shows. Pinkvilla notes this would be the first 100 crore film of Soori's career if it gets there, a marker worth sitting with given how long he's worked as a character actor and comic support before headlining something this size.
The film itself is a sea-set sports drama. Soori plays Muthukaali, a former champion sailboat racer who comes back to his coastal village after years away and gets pulled into training a local crew, led by young racer Maari, to take down his old friend-turned-rival Sattapuli's boat, the Tsunami Riders. It's a comeback-and-redemption arc dressed up in racing gear, and audiences seem to be responding to it steadily rather than explosively, which tracks with the collection pattern: a strong second weekend, then a controlled slide into week two.
Director Pugazhendi Mathimaran co-wrote the script with Ameer Jamal Khan and Elred Kumar. The cast beyond Soori includes Suhas, Mahima Nambiar, Sathyaraj, Krish Hassan, Mithun Jai Sankar, Ravindra Vijay and Bala Saravanan.
With the field clear until mid-October, the real number to watch now is the daily net domestic tally. If Mandaadi holds anywhere near its current pace, that 100 crore line should fall within the next week or so.
