Suriya doesn't usually get three shots at 200 crore in a single calendar year. This Diwali, he's going for exactly that.

The actor's Karuppu and Vishwanath & Sons have both crossed the 200 crore mark globally in 2026, according to Koimoi. Scene, his next release, lands in theatres for the festival and carries the job of completing what would be a rare hat-trick for a Tamil star in one year.

The film was announced with a title-reveal video that put Suriya in a cop's uniform, playing a DSP called Inbaraj who, going by the setup, does not much care for the rulebook. That's familiar ground for director Jithu Madhavan, who built Aavesham around Fahadh Faasil's Ranjith Gangadharan, a character who became a meme factory in his own right. Whether Inbaraj gets anywhere close to that kind of cult pull is the real question hanging over Scene, not the box office math.

A first-time pairing, a Mollywood engine room

What makes Scene worth watching beyond the numbers is the cast combination. Suriya has never shared a screen with either Nazriya Nazim or Naslen before, and both of them arrive with recent form behind them. Naslen's last big one was Lokah: Chapter 1 - Chandra, and Nazriya has had back-to-back hits with Sookshmadarshini in Malayalam and Ante Sundaraniki in Telugu.

Much of the crew, per Koimoi's report, comes from the Malayalam industry, with Sushin Shyam handling the music. That's the kind of talent stacking that usually travels well across both Tamil Nadu and Kerala, and the expectation is that Suriya's pull does the heavy lifting in Tamil Nadu while the Mollywood names give the film a genuine shot in Kerala too, a market Tamil stars don't always crack cleanly.

Diwali itself does some of the work. It's a family-audience window, the kind of release date that studios chase precisely because it tends to be forgiving to films that get the tone right. A mass, rule-breaking cop with a supporting cast this strong fits that slot on paper.

Whether Scene actually gets there is still an open question. No exact release date has been locked beyond the festival window, and a title-reveal video, however much buzz it generates, is not a trailer. Suriya's 2026 has already been better than most years he's had, two 200-crore films back to back is not a small thing for any Tamil star. Scene now has to decide whether that streak becomes a hat-trick or just a very good two-out-of-three.
