Ethan Hawke’s The Lowdown is back — and it’s landing in your streaming queue on October 14. The FX series, a neo-noir crime drama created by Sterlin Harjo (Reservation Dogs) and set in Tulsa, Oklahoma, returns for its second season after scoring a near-perfect 98% on Rotten Tomatoes in its debut run.

That’s not just good. It’s elite. The kind of score that puts it shoulder-to-shoulder with Silo, Widow’s Bay, and Slow Horses. And Hawke?

He’s the reason people are still talking about it. His performance, described as “hangdog charisma” by Collider. Earned him an Independent Spirit nod and an Oscar nomination earlier this year for Blue Moon, Richard Linklater’s arthouse turn. Now he’s back in a role that feels like a natural extension of his recent work: the quiet intensity of Black Phone 2, the layered menace in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, and the grounded gravitas of The Weight, the Russell Crowe Western currently in limited release.

That film, incidentally, has a 93% on RT, the best-reviewed Crowe movie in nearly 30 years. So when Hawke says he’s balancing “arthouse work with tentpoles,” he’s not exaggerating. The second season of The Lowdown will run eight episodes, wrapping up on November 25. It arrives just two days before Taylor Sheridan’s Tulsa King.

Starring Sylvester Stallone, returns for its fourth season. Yes, there’s a Tulsa King reboot happening. But this isn’t that. This is something else.

Something quieter. More deliberate. Less flashy. More real.

The supporting cast remains intact: Keith David, Kyle MacLachlan, Macon Blair, Tim Blake Nelson, Tracy Letts, Peter Dinklage. All of them, in their own way, keep Tulsa alive. And so does Hawke. The show doesn’t just return.
