Verity lands in Indian theatres this Friday, promising a weekend of unease. The film, drawn from Colleen Hoover’s bestseller, brings together Anne Hathaway as the enigmatic Verity Crawford and Dakota Johnson as Lowen Ashleigh, a writer pulled into a web of obsession and deception.

Hoover herself has weighed in, calling Johnson’s casting not just right but fated. In an interview with Filmfare, she revealed her long-standing admiration for Johnson, tracing it back to her role in Fifty Shades of Grey. "I feel like I got to follow along with her rise," Hoover said, adding that Johnson embodies everything she imagined for Lowen — graceful, compelling, and kind.

The story unfolds in a remote estate where Lowen moves in to ghostwrite Verity’s final book after a personal tragedy. What begins as professional collaboration spirals into psychological torment when Lowen discovers disturbing notes suggesting Verity’s life was far darker than anyone knew. Josh Hartnett plays Jeremy, Verity’s husband, caught between loyalty and suspicion.

Directed by Michael Showalter and produced by Amazon MGM Studios, the film is distributed in India by Sony Pictures Releasing International. It arrives in cinemas only, with no streaming window mentioned.

The release comes amid growing interest in high-stakes literary adaptations. While the novel’s fanbase is strong, the film’s success may hinge on how well it balances suspense with character depth. Johnson’s performance, already lauded by the author, could be the anchor.

October 2 marks the start of a tense cinematic week. Whether Verity lives up to its source material, or simply becomes another twist-heavy thriller. Will be clear by Sunday night.
