Yami Gautam Dhar’s Nayyi Navelli is set to release in theatres tomorrow, Friday, October 16 — but not before the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) stepped in with a handful of last-minute edits. The horror comedy, which marks Yami’s return to the big screen following her National Award win for Article 370 (2024), has been cleared with a U/A 16+ certificate after its makers implemented several changes requested by the CBFC’s Examining Committee. The film’s final runtime, as confirmed on the censor certificate, is 138 minutes, two hours and 18 minutes long. Bollywood Hungama reported that the board asked for modifications to 57 seconds of dialogue delivered by Yami’s character, Mohini. The exact lines remain undisclosed, though the report notes the changes were made ‘wherever it occurred’ in the film. No official reason was provided for the cut. The CBFC also required the filmmakers to redraft the opening disclaimer, which now explicitly states that the film is a work of fiction and that the makers abide by applicable rules. A visual sequence in the climax was ‘suitably modified’, and the background music accompanying that scene was also altered. These adjustments were completed prior to certification, which was granted on October 12. In addition, the board mandated the insertion of a static notice wherever scenes featuring masala eating appear. An anti-drug disclaimer was added at the beginning of the film. While the sources do not specify why the masala-eating visuals triggered a notice, the requirement stands as part of the final clearance conditions. The film stars Addinath M Kothare, Anurag Thakur, and Sunita Rajwar alongside Yami Gautam Dhar. It blends horror and comedy, with the trailer generating early buzz. Ahead of the release, Yami was seen seeking blessings at Ayodhya’s Ram Mandir. With all certification requirements met, the theatrical rollout proceeds as planned. The question now isn’t whether the film will play. It’s what audiences will hear, see, and miss.
