The crime thriller posted its third-biggest fourth week ever for Devgn even as two smaller films fought very different battles at the ticket window.
Drishyam 3 just will not slow down. The Ajay Devgn thriller added 11.15 crore in its fourth week, pushing its net total past 373 crore, and that number alone puts it in rare company. According to Koimoi, it's now Devgn's third-biggest fourth week of all time, behind only Drishyam 2's 19.4 crore and ahead of Shaitaan's 6.57 crore.
Day 28 brought in 90 lakh, flat against the previous day, which tells you the film has found a floor rather than a cliff edge. Made on a reported budget of 110 crore, Drishyam 3 has already returned 263.4 crore profit, a 239% ROI that Koimoi classifies as a super duper hit. The one number working against it is comparison to its own predecessor. Drishyam 2 pulled nearly double this film's week-four haul, so whatever Drishyam 3 is doing right, it's doing it at a steadier, less explosive pace.
Premada Oorali joins an exclusive club
While Bollywood's big thriller grinds on, a far smaller Kannada film just hit a number that usually belongs to industry giants. Premada Oorali closed its fifth week with 85 lakh on day 35, a 22.73% dip from the day before, taking its net total to 106.7 crore.
Here's the headline number: on a reported budget of just 3 crore, that's an ROI of over 103 crore, or roughly 3457% returns. Koimoi reports that makes it only the fifth Kannada film ever to cross the 100-crore ROI mark, joining KGF Chapter 1, KGF Chapter 2, Kantara and Kantara Chapter 1. Not bad company for a romantic drama nobody was watching for box office fireworks. The film is now tracking toward a lifetime total somewhere between 116 and 120 crore net.
Nayyi Navelli racing the clock
Then there's the film that didn't catch fire. Nayyi Navelli, the Balaji Mohan comedy-horror produced by Aanand L Rai and Himanshu Sharma, opened to 22.4 crore in its first week but has barely moved since, adding under 4 crore across the entire second week.
Day 14 brought in 25 lakh, matching day 13 exactly, which is its own kind of bad sign. The film currently sits at 26.05 crore net and is, by Koimoi's count, just 1.7 crore short of edging past Sanam Re into Yami Gautam's top 10 highest-grossing Bollywood films. Whether it gets there depends on whatever's left in theatres before November 5, when the current window of competition closes. Right now, momentum isn't on its side.
Three films, three very different stories, one week. Drishyam 3 keeps climbing toward a number nobody expected a month ago, Premada Oorali has already made history on a shoestring, and Nayyi Navelli is simply hoping to limp past a 12-year-old benchmark before the clock runs out.
