Mikayla Matthews has put a name to the reason she's walking away from The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.

The 26-year-old announced her exit from the Hulu series on Monday while season six was already filming. A day later, she used her Instagram story to clear up who and what pushed her out, confirming it was Taylor Frankie Paul's return to the cast.

"The ONLY reason I'm leaving the show is because I was told a certain person was coming back," Matthews wrote. "I told them before agreeing to do 6 that I wasn't going to film if that certain someone came back. Because it's UNETHICAL and kids are involved."

She said she only signed on for season six because she'd been told Taylor wouldn't be part of it. Once producers told her otherwise, she was out. "I said great, then I will not be participating, god bless and goodbye, haven't filmed a day since," she wrote.

Matthews was careful to frame this as a decision she'd flagged long before season five even aired, not a reaction to how that season landed with viewers. "This wasn't a spur of then moment decision," she said, adding she'd raised the same concerns during her season five press run. She also pushed back on any read that she was issuing an ultimatum. "I'm not in control of who comes and who leaves," she wrote, framing her decision as personal rather than a demand aimed at the show.

Matthews referenced a widely circulated Barstool video involving Taylor, which she said she'd only seen for the first time in March, along with unspecified "other things" that she says made her question what she'd been hearing and, in her words, "unknowingly enabling." She did not elaborate on what those other things were.

The backdrop here matters. Season five closed on a blowup between Matthews and Taylor, with Matthews calling out Taylor's decision to reconcile with her ex, Dakota Mortenson, before the two hugged it out in tears. Taylor's future on reality TV had already gone sideways elsewhere, with her season of The Bachelorette reportedly axed over legal complications tied to Dakota.

Matthews also used the statement to point at the cost of her decision, not just to herself but to everyone around the production. "For the cast, the CREW who also had to take a break from how they provide for their family, the millions of dollars lost," she wrote. "Wake up people."

What none of this settles is what Taylor Frankie Paul's return actually looks like on camera, or whether Hulu recasts around Matthews' absence for the rest of season six. Taylor hasn't publicly responded to Matthews' statement. Hulu hasn't said anything either.
