Ramayana: Rise of a Legend Part Two will premiere in 2028, not 2027. That’s the new timeline from producer Namit Malhotra, who confirmed the delay to E! News on Thursday. The first part hits theatres on November 5 — just in time for Diwali, but fans won’t get the full arc until two years later.

Why? Because the sequel isn’t just another film. It’s a reimagined finale, built from two master versions: one in Hindi, one in English. Malhotra said the decision came after realising the scale of what they were crafting.

“We didn’t want to do a rush job,” he said. “We wanted to make sure we delivered the finale in as much grandeur as it deserves.”

The first film sets up Rama (Ranbir Kapoor) and Sita (Sai Pallavi) as they begin their exile after King Dasharatha’s fateful choice, driven by Queen Kaikeyi’s demand that her son Bharata be crowned.

Lakshmana stays with them. Demons stalk the forest. The romance is quiet, intimate. But the end leaves questions.

How does Rama find Sita? What happens when she’s taken? That’s where Part Two picks up. Kapoor spoke about the emotional weight of portraying Ram and Sita’s bond, not through words, but glances.

“Love is not about being together when times are good,” he said. “It’s standing by each other when you know times are hard.” He called Sita’s journey “the greatest loss” in the epic. “She sacrifices everything to be with Lord Ram.”

The delay also reflects the complexity of dubbing and rewriting the original script into English without losing its soul.

A separate edit was needed. A fresh version. Not a translation. A reinvention.

Meanwhile, the screening in Mumbai drew stars, Alia Bhatt, Kajal Aggarwal with her son, Ranbir Kapoor himself. The buzz is building. But the real test comes in November. Part Two?

Still waiting. 2028. No more. No less.
