Street Fighter And Prahaar Set For An October 16 Box Office Clash

Ajay Devgn's Drishyam 3 opens the month on October 2, but the real traffic jam at theatres lands two weeks later when a Hollywood franchise reboot and a Rajkummar Rao biopic hit screens the same Friday.

Ajay Devgn is back as Vijay Salgaonkar on October 2, and he's not walking into an empty multiplex that weekend. Drishyam 3 shares its opening Friday with Prem Keetanu, the college romance pairing Veer Pahariya with Aparshakti Khurana, which marks producer Gaurav Verma's first theatrical outing under his new banner, Avanika Films. Shriya Saran and Tabu return for the third Drishyam chapter too, though nobody's saying much about where the story goes this time. That secrecy has become part of the franchise's marketing, honestly.

The traffic only gets heavier from there.

Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan show up on October 9 with Udta Teer, a spy comedy that's also first-time director Akash A Kaushik's debut. It's a Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment joint venture, and it has the field to itself that Friday, at least among the big Hindi releases.

Then comes October 16, which is shaping up to be the month's actual pressure point. Street Fighter lands with its live-action reboot of the video game universe, built around the World Warrior Tournament and carrying a genuinely strange cast list: Vidyut Jammwal as Dhalsim, Jason Momoa as Blanka, Noah Centineo as Ken Masters, and 50 Cent turning up as Balrog. That's a lot of star wattage chasing gamers and nostalgia at once.

Same day, Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi open Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam, the biopic built around the public prosecutor's career. Trailer chatter online has already split into two camps, one calling it a gripping courtroom watch, the other dismissing it as emotional manipulation dressed up as true-crime drama. Either way, it's going up against a global action tentpole on the same weekend, which is a rough spot for a biopic trying to hold screens.

Things settle down slightly after that. Isha Malviya makes her big screen debut opposite Gurmeet Choudhary in Tum Mere Ho on October 23, directed by Aashish Panda, with a music lineup that stretches across five composers including Mithoon and Sanju Rathod. Yami Gautam's Nayyi Navelli is also part of the October slate, though that film's own promotional cycle has already been covered here in detail.

Seven releases, five distinct weekends, and at least one genuine collision. What's missing from all the trailers and press rounds so far is any real sense of how exhibitors plan to split screens on October 16, when a Hollywood franchise and a homegrown biopic are both counting on opening day numbers to set the tone for their runs. That's the number worth watching once the weekend actually arrives.
