Suriya’s 2026 run isn’t just a comeback — it’s a reckoning. After a decade-long gap between major commercial successes, the actor has returned with two films that have collectively grossed ₹527.23 crore worldwide. The first, Karuppu, marked his long-awaited resurgence, raking in ₹315 crore globally thanks to strong word-of-mouth and audience response. Two months later, Vishwanath And Sons followed suit, adding ₹212.23 crore to the tally. Together, they’ve put Suriya on track to challenge Thalapathy Vijay’s 2023 record as Kollywood’s highest-grossing star in a single year. That record stands at ₹905.63 crore, achieved through Varisu (₹299.2 crore) and Leo (₹606.43 crore). Suriya still trails by ₹378.41 crore. To surpass Vijay, his upcoming film Scene would need to cross that threshold, a tall order, but not impossible. After all, he already delivered a ₹300-crore grosser once. If Scene clicks with audiences, the momentum could carry him past the mark. The final test is now. One film remains. One record within reach. The year isn’t over. The race isn’t done.
