The Vvaan actress opened up about meeting her co-star years before their first film together and what she makes of his marriage.
Tamannaah Bhatia has some things to say about Sidharth Malhotra, and most of it is praise.
In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Hungama, the actress called her The Vvaan: Force of the Forrest co-star "a very genuine person" and said his marriage to Kiara Advani is basically couple goals. Not the kind of line actors toss around for a soundbite either. Tamannaah went into detail, describing Sidharth as someone who stays chivalrous and calm even when things around him are chaotic, and called him a doting father who sets the bar high for everyone else.
"He is super chivalrous," she said. "If you're ever walking together, even if he's in the middle of chaos, he will still always be like chivalrous and calm."
Turns out this isn't a working relationship built from scratch on set. Tamannaah revealed she'd actually met Sidharth years ago, at the Isha Yoga Centre, well before either of them signed on to the film. "I met Sid many, many years ago at the Isha Yoga Centre," she said, adding it was only the second time they'd crossed paths. So by the time cameras rolled on The Vvaan, there was already some familiarity there, which might explain why she's this candid about him off-screen.
What struck her most, she said, was that Sidharth isn't performing for the camera even when there isn't one around. "After working with him, I think he is just genuinely a very... A real person," Tamannaah told Bollywood Hungama. "You can have any conversation with him, and he is always present, and he is very aware."
The interview also got into how the timing of their collaboration shaped the film itself. Asked if she'd ever pictured doing something more urban and college-set with Sidharth back when they were both starting out, Tamannaah pointed instead to what their characters in The Vvaan actually represent: contemporary, city-bred Indians who still reach for something larger than themselves. "We also are people who understand the power of invoking hope," she said. "Because we are all living from that, right?"
The Vvaan: Force of the Forrest, directed by Panchayat's Deepak Kumar Mishra and based on a story by TVF founder Arunabh Kumar, released in cinemas on September 25. It's a folklore-fantasy thriller built around a rational, urban man who returns to his ancestral village and refuses to believe the warnings about a forbidden sacred forest. He goes in after sunset anyway, and the film takes it from there, supernatural deity and all. Sunil Grover, Anup Soni, Shweta Tiwari and Maniesh Paul round out the cast, with Balaji Motion Pictures, TVF Motion Pictures and 11:11 Productions behind it.
Tamannaah and Sidharth have also been doing the rounds together promoting the film, including a recent stop on Netflix's The Great Indian Kapil Show. Whether this press cycle pushes numbers for The Vvaan in its second weekend remains the actual question worth watching.
