Sidharth Malhotra's biggest post-pandemic opener also becomes a personal high for Tamannaah Bhatia and cracks Balaji Motion Pictures' post-COVID top five.
Rs 8.12 crore on a working Friday isn't a number that usually makes headlines by itself. But The Vvaan managed to tuck three separate records into that single figure, and that's the part worth sitting with.
The fantasy thriller, built around Chhath Puja lore and a supernatural mystery, is TVF's first outing as a film producer, co-backed by Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor's Balaji Motion Pictures along with Niraj Kothari and Arunabh Kumar's 11:11 Productions. For a debut production slate, that Friday number is more than a foot in the door.
For Sidharth Malhotra, it's now his biggest opening day of the post-pandemic era, edging past Thank God, his 2022 outing opposite Ajay Devgn. For Tamannaah Bhatia, it lands as her fourth-largest opening day in Hindi films, pushing her into her own top five. And for Balaji Motion Pictures, the film has bumped Ek Villain Returns and knocked Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video out of the studio's post-COVID top five entirely.
Three different careers, three different ledgers, one Friday.
The geography behind that number matters too. Koimoi's reporting flagged strong turnout from single screens and mass circuits across Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi-NCR, the belt where Chhath Puja isn't backdrop, it's the reason people are showing up. That's a specific audience bet paying off on day one, not a generic multiplex opening.
Day two brought its own signs of life. Show count climbed from 7,005 on Friday to 7,358 for Saturday, and advance ticket sales rose to 1.25 lakh, up from Friday's 1.17 lakh, worth roughly Rs 2.76 crore before blocked seats are counted in. Net advance stood at Rs 2.34 crore. None of that guarantees a big Saturday on its own, walk-ins usually decide that, but the direction is upward and trade watchers are pointing at a double-digit net figure as the baseline target for day two.
The cast around Malhotra and Bhatia, Anup Soni, Sunil Grover, Shweta Tiwari, and Maniesh Paul, gives the film a wide net across age groups and languages of humour, which could help word of mouth travel past the opening weekend crowd. Director Deepak Kumar Mishra's film now has to answer the only question that matters after a solid Friday: can it hold through Saturday and Sunday, or was the festival timing doing most of the work.
The weekend tally will settle that argument by Monday morning.
