Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups is still looking for a streaming home. And going by what Bollywood Hungama has learnt, nobody should be treating the Rs 30 crore number floating around as anything close to final.

The Yash-starrer, directed by Geetu Mohandas, opened to a theatrical run that didn't match the scale of its mounting. The film pulled together a stacked cast — Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Tara Sutaria, Huma Qureshi, Rukmini Vasanth, and was positioned as a big-ticket event. It landed short of that positioning at the box office. That much is settled. What isn't settled is what happens next.

An industry source familiar with the ongoing discussions told Bollywood Hungama that conversations with multiple streaming platforms are underway right now, but that nothing has been locked. "The figures being discussed or reported at the moment should not be treated as the final deal value," the source said. "The team is evaluating the offers and looking at what makes the most sense for the film."

The Rs 30 crore number, and why it's shaky

There's been chatter that an earlier OTT bid for Toxic was considerably higher than what platforms are now willing to offer, with some reports pegging the revised figure around Rs 30 crore. Bollywood Hungama's understanding is that this number, wherever it came from, hasn't been confirmed as a concluded deal. Treat it as an industry estimate, not a signed contract.

That gap between an old offer and a possible new one, real or not, tells you something about how OTT buying has changed. Platforms aren't writing cheques on star power and scale alone anymore. They're watching how a film actually performs on screen first, then how audiences reacted, then the shelf life it might have as a streaming title, before anyone talks numbers.

A second source put it plainly to Bollywood Hungama: "While Toxic may not have delivered the theatrical run that was expected, the film continues to generate considerable curiosity, particularly around its digital premiere. Conversations with multiple platforms are currently underway, but no deal has been locked yet. Importantly, the figures being circulated in the market at this stage are purely speculative."

So where does that leave things? Somewhere in between. Toxic isn't without takers, curiosity around its digital debut appears genuine, but the makers are still weighing offers rather than sitting on a signed agreement. Whatever the eventual number turns out to be, it'll only be real once both sides put pen to paper.

Until then, every figure attached to this deal, Rs 30 crore included, stays speculation dressed up as trade news. The actual streaming date, and the actual price, is the thing to wait for.
