Nayanthara’s 750-crore dream hinges on Mookuthi Amman 2’s Diwali opening — but she’s not alone in the race.
Nayanthara’s 2026 box office tally is within striking distance of a landmark: 750 crore worldwide. With just 20 crore left to go, the Lady Superstar’s four-film run — across Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil and Hindi, has kept her in the headlines. But the final push comes with Mookuthi Amman 2, set for a Diwali release that could make or break the milestone.
The film isn’t just another entry in her discography. It’s a sequel to a cult favourite, now reimagined as a pan-India spectacle. The original, released in 2020, was direct-to-digital, so its numbers don’t count. But the fanbase?
Still loyal. Still loud. And still ready to pack theatres. That’s the hope, anyway.
The real test begins on opening day. The film doesn’t have it easy. It’s up against Suriya’s Scene, which also stars Nazriya Nazim and Naslen. Suriya’s been on a hot streak this year, his momentum is real.
Then there’s Ramayana: Part 1, a franchise continuation directed by Sundar C, which shares the same weekend. Two big releases. One crowded screen. All eyes on word-of-mouth.
If Mookuthi Amman 2 opens with 5–6 crore, it’ll be a strong start. But sustaining that pace? That’s the question. Her other films tell a mixed story. Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu with Chiranjeevi hit 300 crore globally. Patriot, with Mammootty and Mohanlal, landed at 80.53 crore. Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups had a massive 100-plus crore opening but collapsed under negative reviews, finishing at 333.49 crore. Hi, her Tamil rom-com, earned 15.1 crore.
So far, she’s delivered hits and misses. But this one? It’s personal. The goddess avatar.
The return. The sacrifice. The new evil. The stakes are higher than just numbers.
They’re about legacy. And Diwali might just decide if Nayanthara crosses the line, or falls short. The countdown begins Thursday morning.
