The latest Tamil movie news from Kollywood: box office, release dates, OTT arrivals, trailers and what the stars are saying, updated through the day.
The Mammootty-Dhanush starrer Om, initially set for October 16, has been moved to November 20 to avoid competition with Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 and the Diwali season. The film, directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, is produced by Dhanush through Wunderbar Films and co-produced by Shraddha Agrawal and Azmat Jagmag.
Prashanth called the film 'decent' — but warned that its script failed to surprise. The real story? A first-time director choosing craft over legacy. Now, the pressure’s on.
Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 is already making noise overseas, with $165K in US premiere bookings in just 48 hours. The film releases in two weeks.
Sigma takes first place on Day 1, but only because the competition is weak. The film's success is confined to Tamil Nadu, while Telugu numbers lag. No film broke through — and the weekend looms.
Jailer 2’s advance bookings in the US have crossed $100,000 in just 36 hours — a figure that doesn’t just signal demand, it confirms a cultural footprint.
Jason Sanjay's debut film Sigma, starring Sundeep Kishan, opened to Rs 2.35 crore net and topped a crowded long-weekend box office, though it missed the actor's own record by a slim margin.
Pen Marudhar has acquired Hindi distribution rights to Jailer 2 for over Rs 15 crore and Gunmaaster G9 for Rs 35 crore-plus, trade sources told Bollywood Hungama, banking on a national multiplex release this time.
Dorothy's Telugu release flopped on day one, with 123telugu reporting negligible numbers despite the film's strong word-of-mouth run in Tamil Nadu and its Toronto premiere earlier this year.
Critic Blue Sattai Maran has panned Jason Sanjay's directorial debut Sigma, saying the film recycles the old-school formula of his grandfather S.A. Chandrasekhar's Sattam Oru Iruttarai rather than offering anything new.
Jason Sanjay's directorial debut Sigma, starring Sandeep Kishan, opened to roughly Rs 2.70 crore on day one in India, pulling ahead of Vijay Sethupathi's Baththa, which collected Rs 1.5 crore, trade figures show.
No fanfare, no trailer blitz. Just a new entry in the algorithm, sliding into view like a late-night text you didn’t expect but can’t ignore.
Jason Sanjay’s directorial debut Sigma hits screens Friday, October 10, marking the first major step of Thalapathy Vijay’s heir apparent into the spotlight—where the eyes are already fixed, not on the film’s plot, but on the man who made it.
Anbil Avan’s 30-minute action climax doesn’t just outstay its welcome — it drags the entire film into a ditch.
Sardar 2, directed by P. S. Mithran, wrapped up its theatrical run with ₹24.85 Crore worldwide, falling short of the ₹35 Crore target. The film debuted on Amazon Prime Video on October 1, 21 days after release.
The film’s biggest flaw isn’t the script — though it’s riddled with logic gaps — but the editing. A single paragraph from the review nails it: “The editor treated the film like a TV serial.”
Sundeep Kishan didn’t just walk into theatres on Friday — he stormed them. With a warning.
The film follows Guru, a struggling librarian, into a high-stakes game disguised as a theatre. Behind the curtain? A casino. Behind the game? A fortune.
Vijay couldn't make it to Sigma's first show but got a framed photo from the film during his Madhurandhagam roadshow on Friday, raised it above his head for the crowd, while wife Sangeetha and daughter Divya Saasha represented the family at Kamala Cinemas.
Sigma hits screens today — and Jason Sanjay, son of Vijay, is finally in the director’s chair. The film, a Tamil-Telugu bilingual thriller starring Sundeep Kishan in the lead, premiered across theatres on Thursday morning, marking the first time the actor has stepped behind the camera since his father’s legacy became a full-time presence in the public eye.
Balaji Tharaneetharan's Baththa, starring Vijay Sethupathi as a gangster locked in a school toilet by a terrified child, is drawing praise for its restraint and its young newcomer Sai Prithviraj.
Sigma opens today — and with it, the curtain falls on a debut that was never meant to be.
Sardar 2 hits Amazon Prime Video this Thursday — three weeks after its theatrical run. That’s the new normal for Indian cinema: a film leaves theatres, then waits, then lands on OTT with a delay that feels less like strategy and more like surrender.
Sangeetha Sornalingam and daughter Divya Sasha attended son Jason Sanjay's directorial debut Sigma in Chennai on Friday, their first public appearance since Sangeetha withdrew her divorce case against Vijay in August.
Sigma opens today — and the first reactions are already rolling in. The film, directed by Jason Sanjay, son of superstar Vijay, hits screens across Tamil Nadu with a quiet but unmistakable fanfare. The opening day crowd? Heavy on Vijay’s loyalists. The theatres filled not just with cinephiles, but with families who came to witness a legacy in motion — and a debut that wasn’t quite a revolution.
Baththa, Vijay Sethupathi's new Tamil release, earned 1.5 crore on its opening day, his weakest post-COVID start, despite favourable word-of-mouth from critics and viewers on X.
The film was made on a reported ₹30 crore budget, including marketing — and with ₹23 crore already secured through OTT, satellite, and music rights, the break-even point is closer than most debuts manage.
The Telugu film Sigma, directed by Jason Sanjay and produced by Lyca Productions, has opened to scathing reviews. Critics say the film’s convoluted narrative, lack of character depth, and poor editing make it a tedious watch. Despite star Sandeep Kishan and a strong cast, the film fails to live up to its pre-release buzz.
Dorothy isn’t just a film. It’s a reckoning. And Sananth and Rishikanth? They’re the ones holding the mirror.
Sigma X hits screens today, and early fan reviews on X praise Jason Sanjay’s assured direction, Sandeep Kishan’s performance, and Thaman’s score — even as they note the film’s predictable plot and slow start.
Baththa opens quietly, wins praise from Blue Shirt Maran for its restrained storytelling and strong performances, particularly from a young actor. Despite a slow start, the film earns a 'feel-good' verdict and builds momentum through emotional depth and tight writing. No box office explosion—but word-of-mouth is steady
